Vacation Thoughts

We are on vacation in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. Being home educators, we are combining history & vacation. Thankfully, our girls are too young to realize how sneaky we are. It has been a great week and I have been reflecting upon the genesis of our great nation. Which brings me to a question for you...

If you were faced with being a patriot (fighting for independence) or being a loyalist (siding with the crown)...which would you choose? The problem I have is this...Peter and Paul clearly teach that we must submit to the authority over us. And they wrote those words while submitting to a pagan empire who at times persecuted the faith. Spiritually and politically, how would you defend your position? I love the freedom we have but I do wonder if I could have rebelled with a clear conscience before God.

Give me some feedback and convince me to be a Patriot!

Dude, read my third latest blogpost (or rather the PDF). It's called "Here, Lord, Are Two Swords."

The link on the post is a link to 7 page PDF on Romans 13 offering a perspective you might not have thought about. But yeah, read the PDF instead, since the post is like the final 4 paragraphs of the PDF.

Suffice it to say, there's a difference between "obeying" the government and being "subordinate" to the government. Paul and Peter and the rest certainly didn't obey the government when they were preaching the Gospel. However, the were subordinate in the fact that they were fully ready and willing to face the consequences of the disobedience. This is the best way to interpret that passage. Also, look at Romans 13 in context of Romans 12 and Romans 14.

I'll give the article a look-see...thanks for the info. I do agree with your last paragraph about "obeying" and being "subordinate" in reference to the apostles.
